OB Staff Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians
October 13, 2014
Christina Haag & Melissa McCue properly install a car seat for new parents going home from IMH with their bundle of joy.WATSEKA, ILLINOIS-Linda McTaggart, RN, IMH Director OB, is pleased to announce that Iroquois Memorial Hospital OB Staff Melissa McCue, RN, and Christina Haag, RN, have become certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
"The first trip home from the hospital with a newborn is a great moment in a new parent's life," said McCue. "Without proper car seat use, it can also be dangerous. Many parents may be incorrectly using car seats," added Haag. As certified child passenger safety technicians, Melissa McCue and Christina Haag educate new parents on the proper installation of child car seats before taking their bundle of joy home.
A recent study by Oregon Health and Science University Hospital found that almost all of the parents made at least one critical mistake with their baby's car seat. Mistakes ranged from the seat's harness being too loose to the seat not being angled correctly. "Car crashes kill more children than any other cause; we strive to make certain parents leaving IMH with their newborns are properly educated on child car seats," said OB Nurses Melissa McCue, RN, and Christina Haag, RN.
